As the fall 2024 relaunch of the SigEp chapter at California-Berkley approaches, the Alumni and Advisory Committee (AVC) and mentors are regularly meeting at 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month; the next meeting is set for February 17 (a deviation from second Saturday due to a conflict with the 2024 San Francisco Carlson Leadership Academy). The meetings are held via Zoom and are open to any alumnus or volunteer who is interested in supporting the relaunch. Contact AVC President Chuck Stegman at sigepfincomp@gmail.com for login details.
We will also be having an Alumni Reception on Thursday, Feb. 8 from 6-8pm. We will gather at The Toy Soldier at 52 Belden Place in San Francisco. Please join us if you are able!
Building on the template established by fall 2023’s three successful chapter relaunches at Michigan, Illinois, and Oregon, we will be providing steady support and all the volunteer and professional staff our new brothers need to build an outstanding chapter.
A key element of this effort is actively building a mentor community to support the chapter. SigEp Headquarters recommends over a dozen mentors to support key chapter officers. We also want to have additional mentors who can support the chapter’s member development programming (e.g., by doing a short program on a topic of interest) and career mentors. The alumni and volunteers supporting the chapter will be working closely with professional staff from SigEp HQ and SigEp’s District Governor, Jim Amen.
Another critical support from HQ will be in-person volunteer training on a Saturday (date TBA) shortly before instruction begins on August 24. We will aim for the training to take place on campus so we can include a campus tour, but a Zoom link will be provided for anyone who can’t attend in person. The volunteer training will be led by HQ’s Volunteer Engagement and Education Director Brian Tenclinger of the Louisiana State Renaissance. Brian brings more than 28 years of volunteer experience to his role. Starting last spring, a social media expert from HQ has been aiding volunteers in “pre-heating” the campus for our return. Additionally, the two chapter-development directors from HQ will live in Berkeley for the fall 2024 semester to help recruit and mentor the new chapter.
We will be intentionally unhoused as we build a sustainable chapter culture, so a robust member development program will be an important part of our offering.
Referrals of potential founding fathers are most welcome. We will be using the Balanced Man Scholarship as an important part of our recruiting efforts.
Please start spreading the word to any top-notch young men attending Cal in fall 2024!
